Wrinkles are a fact of life. Although genetics, sunscreen, and lifestyle can all slow the development of fine lines, wrinkles are inevitable for even the most healthy and diligent of people.

If you are hoping to turn the clock back a few years while still looking natural, botox can help you achieve a youthful complexion discreetly, allowing you to maintain your facial expressions so no one knows that you have received a bit of a boost.

Here at Hecker Dermatology Group in both Tamarac and Pompano Beach, FL, we offer safe and effective botox injections to help you look your best—read on to learn more.

What is botox?

Botox injections contain the chemical acetylcholine, which works by stopping the muscle contractions that create wrinkles. At our Tamarac and Pompano Beach offices, we can target your botox injections to diminish fine lines in various areas of your face. Botox can minimize the appearance of crows feet, laugh lines, creases between your eyebrows, and worry lines on your forehead.

Are botox injections painful?

Botox injections are surprisingly painless and do not require anesthesia. Some individuals may experience discomfort, tenderness, redness, or light bruising, which should diminish quickly. The procedure can be done at our offices in Tamarac and Pompano Beach in just minutes. You can expect to see results within a few days.

How long does botox last?

Depending on the site of your botox, you can expect results to last between three to six months. Botox is not permanent, so you will need to have periodic injections at our Tamarac or Pompano Beach offices to maintain your results.

Is botox safe?

Absolutely! Botox is approved by the Food and Drug Administration as safe for individuals age 18 to 65.

Do you feel far too young to have so many wrinkles and fine lines? If so, we have good news—preserving your youthful experience can be as simple as visiting your Pompano Beach, FL, dermatologists, Drs. Melanie and David Hecker of Hecker Dermatology Group, for Botox injections. Read on to learn more!

How does Botox work?

Many of the lines and wrinkles you see are the result of dynamic expressions that occur every time you move your face. When you're younger, you may notice a temporary crease between your eyes when you frown, or lines around your eyes when you laugh. Although these lines initially disappear the moment you stop frowning or smiling, they may become permanent as you grow older.

Botox injections minimize lines by preventing your muscles from contracting when you make dynamic expressions. When the muscles relax, your skin begins to smooth out, making these lines and wrinkles much less prominent.

Is Botox the right choice for me?

Botox is an excellent option if you're unhappy with your lines and wrinkles, are in good health, and are between the ages of 18 and 65; however, you won't be able to receive the injections if you are pregnant, nursing, or have multiple sclerosis or another neuromuscular disease. Botox results are temporary and usually last between 4-6 months, depending on the area being treated.

Why types of lines and wrinkles does Botox treat?

It's amazing the effect one or two little lines can have on your appearance. When vertical lines appear between your eyes, you may look tired, angry or sad. Botox smooths the lines, rejuvenating your appearance.

Have the crow's feet at the corners of your eyes become much more noticeable lately? Botox offers a simple way to minimize these lines that appear when you laugh or smile.

Do you wish you could pull your hair back or wear forehead-baring hairstyles but feel self-conscious about the horizontal lines on your forehead? After your Pompano Beach skin doctor injects Botox into your facial muscles, your forehead furrows will be much less noticeable. The injections can also improve the appearance of lines around your mouth and decrease the dimples in your chin.

Cosmetic surgical procedures can produce profound, long lasting changes in facial appearance, but are invasive and have an associated recovery period. Those who are just beginning to show signs of facial aging sometimes desire improvement, but cannot justify the cost or time investment required for surgical intervention.

For these patients, the rapidly expanding repertoire of injectable treatments may perfectly meet your individual needs. Injectable fillers can be used during an office visit, rather than requiring a trip to theWoman with and without wrinkles with dermal fillers operating room. Some treatments require no anesthetic, while others may require topical anesthetic agents. By visiting your dermatologist, you can find the best solution for restoring your youthful appearance.

What Causes Wrinkles?

With age, it seems as if everything slows. This includes the body’s ability to make collagen, which keeps the skin firm. With less collagen, the skin loses elastin and hyaluronic acid, which allows the skin to retain water. By our 40s and 50s, the skin has lost firmness, spring, and moisture, which results in fine lines and wrinkles.

Pale skin tends to wrinkle earlier than dark skin and people with pale skin also tend to develop more wrinkles and fine lines. When lines develop in dark skin the lines tend to be deeper. Constant muscle movement can create wrinkles such as areas of the forehead or around your mouth.

Sun, tanning beds and sun lamps are other main sources for wrinkles, exposing your skin to harmful ultraviolet rays. Exposure to UV rays accelerates the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which causes many people to see wrinkles and fine lines before they reach their 40s and 50s. These same UV rays that cause wrinkles can also cause skin cancer.

A More Youthful Appearance with Injectable Fillers

For fast and long-lasting results, you may want to visit your dermatologist. Today, cosmetic dermatology offers a wide spectrum of safe and effective procedures that can help you dramatically reduce the visibility of your wrinkles, improve your overall skin health and help you achieve your skin care goals.

Collagen injections and other injectable fillers give your skin a plumper, smoother appearance. Although collagen is the best-known filler, there are many other substances doctors can use to plump up your skin. Depending on the type of filler and the depth at which it is injected, you can smooth out fine lines on the surface of the skin, fill out deep lines, augment soft tissues or even effectively augment facial bone structure.

All of these fillers are placed by an injection. Many options are currently available, with clinical differences being predominantly governed by how long the effects last, as well as how the filler “feels.”

Rejuvenate Your Facial Appearance with Botox

Unlike soft tissue fillers such as Juvederm that add volume to skin depressions, Botox blocks the release of a chemical called acetylcholine which triggers the muscle contractions that create wrinkles. Botox essentially paralyzes the muscles and stops them from contracting. Results are visible within approximately one week after treatment and remain for roughly three months.

Botox cosmetic treatments can be used to improve:

  • Worry lines in your forehead
  • Lines between the eyebrows
  • Smile lines
  • Laugh lines, from nose to mouth
  • Crow’s feet

Wrinkles may be a natural part of the aging process, but that doesn’t mean you have to settle for an aged appearance.
